It’s been a hot minute—three weeks, actually—since my last update, and while I had originally planned a classic two-week ramp-up after a down week, things didn’t go exactly as scripted.

Back on the week of March 31, I made a conscious effort to reduce time on feet—logging just 5 hours compared to the 8.5 the week before. The plan was to rebuild for a couple of solid training weeks… but my right Achilles had other ideas.

The soreness crept in just enough to give me pause. With Sedona Canyons 125 just 17 days away, pushing through didn't feel like the brave or smart move. So I scaled things back. Drastically. Because I'd rather toe the line a little undertrained than not toe the line at all.

That decision was also influenced by a trip to Southern California—great to see family, but let’s be honest, travel can take a toll. Tiring, even without cramming miles into it.

Here’s how the past few weeks actually shook out:

Week of March 31 – April 6

  • Mon – Rest
  • Tue – 2 x FRC sessions (~30 mins)
  • Wed – 1hr run
  • Thur – 2hrs on feet
  • Fri – Rest (dog duties 🐾)
  • Sat – Road: 7.3 miles (1:23)
  • Sun – 5 miles (volunteered at Umstead 100 — good vibes!)

Week of April 7 – April 13

  • Mon – Rest (chest press cameo 💪)
  • Tue – 50 mins (~4.37 mi)
  • Wed – Rest / Stretching
  • Thur – 5.25 miles road + 2.25 miles evening MUT w/ TUFF crew
  • Fri – Rest / Stretching
  • Sat – Rest / Stretching
  • Sun – Rest / Stretching

Week of April 14 – April 20

  • Mon – Travel to LA ✈️
  • Tue – 45 mins road
  • Wed – 6.25 trail miles
  • Thur – Rest / Stretching
  • Fri – Rest / Stretching – Travel back to NC
  • Sat – Rest / Stretching
  • Sun – Dog + did yard work.. so considering that some HIIT! 🙂

So yeah, not high volume. Not high anything, really. But strategic. This week, I’m aiming to maintain some cardio fitness without inviting any more strain. Next week kicks off my official taper, so the goal is to feel fresh and fired up for race day—not taped together and praying.

SC125 is coming in hot. Time to trust the base, trust the taper, and hope the desert vibes bring the magic. 🏜️👟

More soon,
– Adam
